There are moments in life when it feels easier to stop, to give up, or to settle for less. Yet, God calls us to keep going. In 1 Kings 18:41–46, we see Elijah holding on in faith, even when there was no visible sign of breakthrough. His example reminds us of two essential qualities we need to keep going for God.

The Story: Elijah on Mount Carmel

The nation of Israel had been in a long drought. At God’s command, Elijah confronted King Ahab and declared that rain would come again. After his great victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah went up to pray for the rain God had promised.

But when he sent his servant to look toward the sea, the report came back empty: “There is nothing.” Still, Elijah did not stop. He told his servant again: “Go back.” Six times, there was no sign. Yet on the seventh, the servant finally saw a small cloud rising from the sea — the beginning of God’s answer.

A Faith Perspective

Elijah was not focused on the empty sky. He was focused on the faithful God who had spoken. That is what a faith perspective does: it sees beyond what the natural eyes can see, and it locks onto God’s promises.

When we stare at our problems, they only grow heavier. But when we fix our eyes on God, our perspective changes. The issues may still be there, but they no longer define our reality. Faith declares: God is greater, His word is true, and His promise will come to pass.

A Faithful Persistence

Elijah’s command to his servant — “Go again” — shows us what persistence looks like. He did not give up after one attempt, or two, or even six. He kept praying, kept sending, kept believing, until the breakthrough came.

Persistence is not blind stubbornness. It is trust in action. It says: I will keep seeking, keep asking, and keep knocking, because I know the One I am asking is faithful.

Jesus Himself reminds us in Matthew 7:7 — “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened.”

Even when nothing seems to move, God is still working. Like the song Way Maker says: “Even when I don’t see it, You’re working.”

Go Again

The message for us is simple yet powerful: keep going. Go again to the place of prayer. Go again to the promises He has spoken. Go again in the mission He has given you.

Even if yesterday looked empty, today may be the day the cloud appears. The rain is coming. Stay faithful, stay persistent, and keep your eyes fixed on Him.
